Sweden judge Tomas Norstrom, who convicted the owners of the Pirate Bay file sharing service for copyright infringement - ordering them to jail, has been found to belong to several copyright protection groups including one with the representative of the film and movie industry who participated in the trial against the defendants. The judge and the prosecution were in bed together before, during and after the trial.
Norstrom belongs to The Swedish Association of Copyright along with Peter Danowsky, who just happened to represent the music and film industry in their quest to jail the four youths who operated Pirate Bay, and the Swedish Association for the Protection of Industrial Property who also works to fight infringement cases.
The cavalier Judge Norstrom claimed “I made the judgment that the membership in the Association for Copyright did not constitute a bias that would rule me out from participating in the case. The association works to promote knowledge of copyright.” So the judge saw no conflict of interest in trying a copyright case when he was working with an organization whose goal is to jail those like Pirate Bay.
Lawyers for one of the founders of Pirate Bay has asked that the judgment be tossed out because of the conflict of a Judge whose private life is bent on stopping infringement taking it to legal courts where he is the Judge. There is now debate and with the world looking it may be hard for the kangaroo court to carry out its plan as the case may now be sent back to a non-partial judge who is not in cahoots with the music and film industries.
